Many other artists recorded songs there:

It's a shame that place is gone. Certainly it was a major influence on Sarah's work, and of course the collaboration of her and Pierre Marchand produced the wonderful sound that came to be her style. This article goes into detail about how Pierre created that distinctive sound on the albums they worked on together, when it was known as Morin Heights Studio in the Nineties.

I've always liked the look of organized chaos in that studio that is captured so well in the videos of Path of Thorns, Ice and Mary on the Fumbling Towards Ecstasy DVD.

Pierre is on the tambourine on these two videos.

It looked like a very homey cabin in the woods sort of place. They should work together again someday and recreate that magic. Sail on, Pierre!

You're right Ed, it really is a shame!

I saw a comment on a French website: someone said it should have been turned into a music museum. Instead, the building was deteriorated, and now it's gone.

It could have been an amazing museum, with videos of recording sessions, tons of pictures, quotes from artists, objects donated by the singers and musicians who went there, etc. The great thing about it was that artists from Québec, Canada and other countries used it. It wasn't just a local studio; it had a rich history. That's too bad.

Recently:
Thirty years later after signing her first record deal at the age of 19, singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan placed her name on the wall of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in Calgary alongside those of fellow inductees such as Oscar Peterson, the Band, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.

Nice little interview with pictures from Wonderland:
https://theimagista.com/sarah_mclachlan/

And this is in her answers:
Imagista: Your song ‘The Long Goodbye’ (released last year) was your first piece of new material in a while. Do you have an album on the way?
Sarah McLachlan: It is coming. I’m slowly amassing. There will be another record at some point.

Imagista: Are you planning on working with (producer) Pierre Marchand again?
Sarah McLachlan: I don’t see how I could not do something with him. I always hope as a musician to push myself and try new things. I just love what he does so I’m sure we’ll be working together in some capacity. We’ve already written a song together.

Imagista: Would you ever revisit an older song?
Sarah McLachlan: I recently discovered a couple of old tracks that I found on some site that I didn’t even remember. Usually those end up staying there but there might be something I’d pull from, usually not lyrically but maybe musically.

That’s really great to know that she is working on a new album. I was starting to thing that The Long Goodbye was her final release.

I hope we get something new and different this time round.

I wonder what it will be.

Her last album (Shine On) had songs about finding love again, growing in a new relationship... and I feel like it might be different this time ("The Long Goodbye" is a break up song).

I think she needs to pull it out of the bag - these massive delays between projects can't be good food her fan-base. She seems to be less bothered now about being an international act and staying local (which is her complete prerogative)

I wasn't that taken with "The Long Goodbye" in fact, I wondered if it was her way of saying she had stopped recording -thankfully I was SO wrong. I love a new album from Sarah - I just hope she really gives it her all.

Very interesting to read that she has rediscovered those old songs and might use some element of them...

Hi everybody,
I share all your sentiments. It’s a little frustrating waiting years between albums when we all know that she still has a lot to offer. It’s funny that you mentioned about The last goodbye, I too had the same thought last year. I know the speculation was a romantic breakup prompted the song, but was there an underlying message that we all missed?
As regards to the proposed new album, I read somewhere that she was working on this over 2 years ago. All I can say is that I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath back then.
So, are we going to speculate what these “oldies” are? I’m going to propose “The waiting”, I know that nobody will be suprised by that choice, but I’m going to listen again to some of the unreleased material and see if I can guess what may be reworked.

So, c’mon McLachlan, if your reading this let us know if you want some suggestions! And a tour!....UK OK!
