Musicians Sarah McLachlan and David Archuletta, Bones Actors Tamara Taylor and John Francis Daley, and The Simpsons Yeardley Smith Get Ferocious for Felines

PSA Campaign Launches During Nat Geo WILD's First Annual Big Cat Week Beginning Monday, December 6, 2010

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Another celebrity causing an uproar? This time, it's not reckless antics or drunken escapades! In a new PSA launching Monday, December 6, 2010, during Nat Geo WILD's Big Cat Week, celebrities including musicians Sarah McLachlan and David Archuletta, "Bones" actors Tamara Taylor and John Francis Daley, and "The Simpsons" Yeardley Smith join forces to "cause an uproar" in support of big cats, which are disappearing at alarming rates.

Intercut with the celebrities shouting "Cause an uproar!" and images of lions, leopards, cougars and tigers flashing teeth, the PSA calls for viewers to join National Geographic's Big Cats Initiative, a long-term commitment to help find solutions that will stop big cats from disappearing forever. McLachlan, an avid supporter of animal welfare, narrates the PSA. This is the first in a series of PSAs expected to launch over the next year. Individual Big Cats PSAs highlighting the plight of specific species will also feature the celebrities as well as Nat Geo WILD talent Casey Anderson, Mireya Mayor, Beverly and Dereck Joubert, and Brady Barr.

The PSA campaign coincides with the new website CauseAnUproar.org (designed by JESS3). The site, launched Dec. 3, includes key video shorts highlighting the plight of the big cats, the rationale for working together to save them and efforts being undertaken by National Geographic. The site also offers simple steps people can take to help "Cause an Uproar." Then, on Monday, December 6, 2010, Nat Geo WILD kicks off its first annual Big Cat Week, a seven-night television event featuring stories of nature's fiercest felines from some of the world's best natural history filmmakers. Over the next year, the initiative by Nat Geo WILD and the National Geographic Society will continue to grow in scope and execution, with new elements announced as they develop.

What a great cause to support and the ad is really amazing, "lighter" and more fun than most ads of this kind, not full of drama but still making sure it passes the message along. Thanks for sharing Karine :)

P.S. Sarah looks gorgeous :)

Several volunteers, including North Vancouver songstress Sarah McLachlan, donned Santa hats to serve sizzling turkey burgers to some of city’s homeless and hungry.

What a great human being she is :)

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is getting a publicity boost from singer Sarah McLachlan as the agency copes with a decrease in food donations and an increase in demand.

McLachlan and philanthropist Alison Lawton were on hand at a Vancouver free barbecue in Oppenheimer Park to help draw attention to a 22-per-cent drop in donations of non-perishable food items compared to 2009.

Giving back is what the season is about, but not enough people are stepping up, McLachlan said.

"Some people forget or feel paralyzed thinking that little gesture is not going to make a difference," McLachlan told CBC News. "But if 100,000 people think that little gesture isn't going to make a difference and don't do anything then that makes a huge impact."

I'm happy that famous people like Sarah can participate in such events. At 1:23, you see her behind, making the burgers and nobody's bothering her: "can I have your autograph??"! She was with her friend Crystal Heald, you see her singing with Sarah at the beginning of the video.
I try to figure out what I would be if Justin Bieber wanted to do the same in New York! :D

Good news for the foundation:
Sarah McLachlan poses with Caesars Windsor president and CEO Kevin Laforet before performing Friday January 7, 2011 at The Colloseum. Laforet made a $2,500 donation to MacLachlan's charity foundation on behalf of Caesars Windsor.
