I agree that Out Of Shadows is a perfect album opener. I got really impressed when I heard Sarah saying that this was the first song she'd ever written, it has such good lyrics and their complexity really shows how she was trying to do a very good first album and she really accomplished that mission :)

I totally love this song! Well, I love everything about Touch so that's probably not saying much. I don't get tired of this song at all. This is Sarah channeling her inner Celtic bard.
I agree with the Loreena McKennitt comparison. Actually, a collaboration between Sarah and Loreena is one thing I've been dying to hear for ages. Imagine the effect of blending both women's ethereal voices singing Out of the Shadows with Loreena playing the harp. :)
One little leaf adrift in the breeze, refuses to fall from the sky
Blown by the wind it clings to the tree, unwilling to wither and die...

I remember hearing this song for the first time and just being so drawn in and emotionally connected to it immediately. Everyone has experienced some kind of loss or serious illness in their lives and this song speaks to it so honestly and so beautifully. It just kills me everytime whether the studio version or the live version when the music drops out and you just hear that beautiful and heartbreaking harmony. I'm not sure who this song is about or if she ever has revealed the person, but from the way she sings it, it must have been someone very close. If anyone knows, please share. A Sarah classic which sounds as good today as when it was released.

Favorite lyric: Am I in heaven or am I in hell, at the crossroads I am standing.
Favorite vocal or musical moment: When she sings the above line in the last chorus.
One word that sums up this song: Courage

I believe she said that she was watching a documentary about a woman whose husband was dying. I don't remember if it was AIDS or cancer though. This is one of my favorite songs of hers. Its also really fun to sing along to.

My favorite lyrics are
Oh God if you’re out there won’t you hear me
I know that we’ve never talked before
Oh God the man I love is leaving
Won’t you take him when he comes to your door

The intensity that she sings this with is just so heartbreakingly genuine it gives me chills every time i hear it.

It's a song based on a documentary about a woman whose fiancèe has HIV.

This song is one of my all-time favorites, I love all the versions I have already heard. The rocky version on FTE live DVD is so catchy. But the one in Mirrorball really gets me very teary. It's one of the songs I love to play and that made me want to play even more of Sarah's songs.

My favorite part is composed of the ones said before combined:
"Oh God, if you're out there, won't you hear me, I know that we've never talked before....
And Oh God, the man i love is leaving, won't you take him when he comes to your door....
Am I in heaven or am I in hell, at the crossroads I am standing...."
'Cause I can't be the one you wanted me to be....'

This song is arguably the most depressing tune Sarah has ever written. It's a beautiful song but I just can't listen to it on a regular basis. If there is one Sarah song that can drain me of the will to live (lol) it has to be this one, and for that reason I always prefer the upbeat version of Hold On.

I think my favorite version is the acoustic version from 2002. That one is amazing. :)

This song is so powerful, so full of sadness, but still there's this feeling of hope and this strong will to fight. In one word it's just emotional.
My favourite part of the song is (pretty much as everyone else):
"Oh God if you’re out there won’t you hear me
I know that we’ve never talked before
Oh God the man I love is leaving
Won’t you take him when he comes to your door

Am I in heaven here or am I in hell
At the crossroads I am standing"

My favourite version of this song has to be the Afterglow Live one, that intro is just beautiful and it completes the song.
