I like the song too, it's a positive one, full of energy
Maybe I'm the only one who see it that way, but to me this song is a sort of response to the last lines of "Awakenings". These are both the first songs on Laws of Illusion and Shine On, and I my mind they are connected.
In Awakenings, she said that she didn't really know what she was anymore, she was uncertain about herself:
I’m not the girl I was but what have I become?
I’m not so willing anymore to bend
Still pleasing and conceding but I’m not gonna lose myself again
In "In Your Shoes", she sounds strong and in power:
Time for you to walk out walk in your own shoes
Lay down your footprints wherever you choose
Leave it all behind and move on
You are your own woman
I know what inspired Sarah for this song, the story of Malala Yousafzai and the plague of bullying, but even if it's not something about relationship or break up, I see it as a big move toward self-confidence (if that makes sense).
By the way, I talked with my sister yesterday and she said that she had been able to hear it too, so the first release was not only for the US, it was for Canada too.
