Yes you should Jessel. In my opinion the best song is "This is Not The End" (Which is fast becoming one of my favourite songs of all time) followed very closely by "The Last Dance" but I can't say there is a bad track on there at all! :-) Her voice has an amazing range. In some songs where shes using a deeper voice she sounds very much like Tracy Chapman, esp on "Break These Chains". Deffently a five stars out of five album and one that I think will be remembered among the best debuts of all time.

It's a great album! Definitely 5 stars! The highlights are Last Dance, Ain't Nodoby, This Is Not The End. LOL, she really sounds like Tracy Chapman in Bullet and Break These Chains.

I agree with you Ben about This Is Not The End. That one gave me the shivers. God, she's channeling Lisa Gerrard in that song! The live version on Youtube is just... WOWWWW!

I have nothing bad at all to say about album. I can see now why she's being touted as the voice of 2011. Even the cheesy moments (Shield & Sword, I Surrender, and You're Electric) somehow worked. My only complaint is she sounds so much better live (and I won't be able to watch her perform on stage, that's another lol). :)

Well I just finished listening to this album.

And while it is good at times, I must admit I wouldn't rate it at the stratospheric levels that some of you are :P

It's very 80s in places, sounding a bit like Annie Lennox or another middle-of-the-road electro pop singer with a deepish voice (perhaps Alison Moyet? I can't quite put my finger on it....). Not a bad thing, but having grown up in that era I'm a little more excited by a fresher sound (Florence, Bat For Lashes) etc.

There are some interesting arrangements, and lush sounds. But I can say for certain there's no particular track that blows me away.

If I compare this to my reaction to Florence's "Lungs", I was totally blown away by Drumming Song, Blinding, and Cosmic Love. (even though I was underwhelmed by excruciating crap like "You've Got The Love").

So, worth getting. But I'm optimistic, and I feel like there's more potential to be realized, than is actually delivered here...

Rob.

Ouch!!...

But that's okay. :P

I agree with what you said Rob and I also hear a few similarities with Annie Lennox, Tracy Chapman, and even Joan Armatrading. Well maybe I'm just nostalgic about the golden age and it probably has a direct effect in my overall taste. I also blame Kate Bush a lot lol. Ever since I discovered Kate, I confess I find it hard to make emotional connections to other artists' music unless its particularly good/exceptional.

Claire's voice is one of the strongest I've heard in a long time and yes, that's the initial attraction. I don't know, there's just something about her that I don't see/hear in a lot of her contemporaries. Anyway, I'm gonna stick with my guns and say that this is the best one I've heard so far. She's in my top 3 female singer-songwriters now along with Natasha Khan and Joanna Newsom.

Clare has released a third music video, this time for "The Sword And The Shield". I think it's another interesting, and beautiful video.

I love how shes poking fun at Katy Perry and Lady Gaga in the video! I don't think it's as amazing as the video for The Last Dance (Which is unbelivable) but its still awesome! :-D

I love it too. What I don't get is why she's poking fun of Adele and Florence. She has Adele's hair and the building is sort of Rolling in the Deep. She mimicks Florence's Drumming Song dance, the drummers, and the clothes/heels. They're the cool ones. :P

You know, I picked up on the Florence similarity, but I only thought it was a stylistic similarity - not a parody or anything. Are we certain she's poking fun?

(I need to get more familiar with Adele actually)
