I stumbled across alt-folk sister duo The Pierces (Catherine Pierce and Allison Pierce) on iTunes just 2 weeks ago, when I tried out their new EP "Love You More".
I bought it instantly.

You have to try this. 4 tracks, all gold IMHO.
Here's the video for the main single...

And here are the other 3 tracks:
"We Are Stars" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DN_WOYvS9w
"To The Grave" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuVe1d3dfh0
"We Can Make It" - I haven't been able to find this online yet, but it's just as good if not better than the others.

They're super talented, Allison and Catherine...and totally gorgeous as well. They've been around for a few years, but I'm not sure about their previous stuff - it had a curious offbeatness to it, and I'm not sure it had the necessary hooks.

Their new sound is more a mix of timeless folk and progressive folk, highly melodic, full of harmonies, and with strong lyrics...a little bit of Sarah, maybe a little bit of Dixie Chicks....but it's not country music....it's sexy and sensuous, powerful and evocative. It's got the Sarah magic in there.

Surely on the verge of being huge with such a gorgeous sound.
I hope their new album is as amazing as this EP. They're my favourite new artists.

Don't believe me yet?

According to Twitter, they're currently touring in the UK...

Oh, and they performed on Gossip Girl a while back too. Which makes me wonder why they aren't already more well known. http://www.papermag.com/2007/10/the_pie ... gossip.php

Saw them live, supporting Lissie at the end of last year. They were quite rocky, with a folk rock 60's/70's sound mixed with some pop, singer songwriting, and as Magellan said, some weird stuff too. My partner has no doubt they will be big. The blonde girl had a hariocut that reminded me of The Sweet's Brian Connolly. Mini dresses and 60's/70's look. The look and image was obviously quite important, and it looks like they are bent on world domination, however the music was good. One of the best supports I've seen in a long time.

They've been around for longer than I would have imagined. That surprised me. They have also apppeared on Jools Holland, where they did one of their rockiest numbers, and one of my favourites, but their music isn't all like that. It's a real mixture. They had someone signing up people for their email notifications list, outside the venue, so I don't doubt they are well organised. I am sure they will be big, but I am not sure yet, how much substance there is behind the image. From first impressions a reasonable amount.

I have one of their albums, "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge". It's good, I like "Lies" and "Sticks and Stones".

I love The Pierces, I have since I heard Save Me on Roswell a long time ago. I always thought they were great and very unfortunate, as they never got the recognition they really deserve (apparently thanks to their US label).
Thirteen Tales Of Love And Revenge is their best album to date, but, from what I've heard already, I'm hoping You & I (which will be released March 14th) will surpass it :D

TheSquirrel, I think you summed it up really well :)
And there's more. They've just released another song, with a video, called "You'll Be Mine".

This, to me, is awesome. Note the slight electronic undercurrent.

This song is from a 2nd EP, coming out on March 7.
So just to recap what they are releasing...

"Love You More" EP - 4 tracks - already available and awesome.
"You'll Be Mine" EP - tracks unknown (besides title track obviously) - Out March 7 2011.
"You & I" Album - Out May 23rd 2011.

I really like that video. It's like modern day Stevie Nicks... gypsy girls twirling around playing tambourine. :)

They are okay. I like You'll Be Mine but they don't jump out at me as something special...

You'll Be Mine is wonderfull and the video is so pretty :) I'm also completely in love with the song We Are Stars, the lyrics are simply amazing <3
They did an acoustic session for The Sun recently and they covered Lady Gaga's Alejandro and, despite not really liking Lady Gaga or the song, the cover is not bad at all, they make it sound so much better with their harmonies :) Here's the video:
