Jewel
Jewel
So Jewel's new album "Sweet & Wild" is out around the same time as Laws Of Illusion. Kinda nice to see them both appear together on reviews sites (ahh, I'm still nostalgic for the female folk music era of the 90s).
It looks...country I mean, she's still gorgeous. But country
Has anyone heard it, and is it any good?
Jewel's "Goodbye Alice In Wonderland" album from 2006 actually had a few brilliant moments, particularly the title track. And that was only 4 years ago. So those still clinging to the old Folk-style Jewel like me, should definitely pick that one up.

Damn! Ms Kilcher still looks hot in that photo! What is she now, 2-3 years shy of 40?
The latest Jewel cd I have is Spirit which is a really good record. I gave up on her after that. I don't even know she's released a new one, and at about the same time as LOI! (it looks like Sarah is channeling the younger Jewel in Illusions of Bliss). So she's country now eh?

Re: Jewel
She's only 36 actually. Probably the youngest alumni of that 1990s period we love...she was only like 21 when she released "Pieces Of You". So she's still got a lot of years left in her.
Which is why it's frustrating that she's done 2 country albums (including this one) and 1 album of kiddie lullabies, since 2006. "Goodbye Alice In Wonderland" was her last record with Atlantic, hence the last of the old Jewel style.

Still hot though, and surely prone to do more folky stuff in the future. Def check out "Goodbye Alice In Wonderland" Jessel. That song alone is worth 5 mins of your time.

Re: Jewel
^ You're right, Goodbye Alice In Wonderland is a pretty nice tune and a bit reminiscent of the Pieces of You-Spirit era Jewel! I just listened to it on Youtube. I'm going to download the entire album shortly...

Re: Jewel
Cool, glad you like it
And since the subject is GAIW, I feel obligated to post the lovely cover image.
Plus the cover image for the equally strong single off the album, "Again and Again".
There, that's better. Jewel may surprise us again in the future, I can never quite count her out no matter what other genres she fumbles around in for a while...

Re: Jewel
I don't really like this country fase she's going through, but I like to believe it's just a fase and it will go away, kind of like her poppier fase (with 0304)... I really like Jewel, her lyrics are always so amazing, so I seriously hope she goes back to doing folk again

Re: Jewel
I agree Carla! Jewel's album "Spirit" is one of my favourite CDs of all time, every song on that album is just beautiful!! <3 I did kinda like "0304", especially the songs "2 Find You" and "Becoming" but to tell you the turth I haven't listened to much of her country stuff as I'm not a great fan of the genre.Danyy wrote:I don't really like this country fase she's going through, but I like to believe it's just a fase and it will go away, kind of like her poppier fase (with 0304)... BTW I don't like the cover to the new album..... A little too barbie looking for me
Re: Jewel
My thoughts exactly Not that she doesn't look stunning, but it just doesn't seem as natural as most of her album coversCrazylitstudent wrote:BTW I don't like the cover to the new album..... A little too barbie looking for me
I also like some of the stuff on 0304, lyrically most songs are good, it's just the production that isn't near as good as her previous albums (it's too pop). Also her change of style for that album makes me feel like she's trying too hard to be something she's not.
From her other country album (Perfectly Clear) I like one or two songs, but I haven't paid that much attention to it as a whole as I'm not a big fan of genre either.

Re: Jewel
Yeah, I would agree with you guys about the new cover. It's a bit "Cowgirl Barbie". It's not bad, but not as nice as the GAIW covers I posted afterward.
If any of you are interested in new videos, "Stay Here Forever" was featured on the soundtrack to the star-studded romcom "Valentines Day". The video is cute, and the song is actually very "lite" country-pop.

And "Satisfied" was released more recently. Slower and a bit more of a ballad. But again, the "country" twangs are pretty minimal actually. Worth looking into.

Re: Jewel
^ Oh no, it's really country...
Yet it's still Jewel and it's nice to hear something new from her. It's also worth noting that there is very little change in her pretty voice. She still sounds like a 20-something lady.
