Siobhán Donaghy

Post by Magellan » Mon May 24, 2010 11:57 pm

I'm reviving a few of my "other artists" thread from Sarahboards, as news comes to hand :)

For those unfamiliar, Siobhán was a founding member of Sugababes, but soon left to embark on a solo career that has so far seen 2 albums, the second of which was a stunning and at times Kate Bush-esque album of pop-electronica, Ghosts, in 2007. Radio mostly ignored it, and a weird CD printing screw up (where thousands of CDs initially reached stores containing the wrong music) hurt early sales, but the album later went on to be popular around the blogosphere, eventually being voted "Most underrated album ever" in a survey by WE7.com - http://blogs.we7.com/weblog/2009/01/sio ... album.html

After the album's commercial failure, Siobhán took time off, doing some theatre work.

Now she has vocals on a new track, from a charity album to support World Hepatitis Day. This song may only be OK, but she remains one to watch long term for Sarah fans, IMHO.

From Ghosts, some of my favourites were:
"Goldfish"

"Coming Up For Air"

"Medevac"

I love that album, but I'm quite disappointed to know that she won't put out something like this anymore due to the deplorable public reception.

I did dismiss her at first because of the Sugababes taint and I'm so glad I listened to your suggestion or I wouldn't have discovered Siobhan's songwriting ability. Goldfish is my favorite track off that CD and it's probably the most Kate Bush-esque. I sometimes imagine Kate singing a stripped-down piano version of that song lol!

Ghosts is such an amazing album. Siobhán has to be one the most talented artists to come out of the whole UK Girl Band sence. Its a shame she hasn't reach the hights that some artists do but I do really like "Sounds Like A Plan" and hope its the start of something new for her! :) My favourite song is Don't Give It Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgCOxDiN4Bo) I know its a little boring choosing a sing but it is such a great song! :)

Also Siobhán = Drop Dead Gorgeous (Sorry I have a thing for Red Heads with pretty eyes.... *dreamy*)

I think my favourite song is...actually it's very hard to choose.
It's probably "Coming Up For Air". Or "Goldfish".

And yes Ben, she is dreamy. ;)

As I said Red Hair, Pretty eyes... its a killer combination and one that gets me everytime! ;)

Anyway I just got "Revolution in Me", its a very good album but I don't think its *as* good as "Ghosts". It seems with this album she is transitioning from Sugababe to the artist that she became later. I like the single "Overrated" from the album (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBLMSX09ZME) and I also really like the title track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rjteG1lpLQ). I have listened to some of her Sugababes stuff, its pretty good for Girl group fare but Siobhán is a better artist solo than in a group.
