Dido has a new song out - "Everything To Lose", taken from the soundtrack to the forthcoming Sex And The City 2 movie.

This is classy. I'm really liking this. It's got a bit of a Faithless feel to it too, which is great.*

BTW, Dido is going more electronic on her forthcoming next album.
I loved Safe From Harm though...if Sarah has anything half as profound as "The Day Before The Day", on Laws Of Illusion, I'll be happy.

Rob.

*PS. Faithless have a new album out, and the first single/video is here:

"Not Going Home" (erotic version) (don't worry it's all animated)

There are also 2 tracks on the album featuring Dido...
"North Star" (Give this a go)

I don't know what to think about Dido anymore. I loved her first two albums and even really liked "Stan" but her third album left me cold. I don't know what it was but "Safe Trip Home" didn't have the same connection with me like "No Angel" or "Life For Rent". One day it may finaly grow on me but for now I'm still feeling cold about it.

I like "Everything To Lose" though. It has a very Imogen Heap quality tto it! :) I don't like "Not Going Home" (And the video is HORRIBLE!), for me the best Dido/Faithless song remains "One Step Too Far".

I really love Dido, her music is amazing and her voice mesmerazingly bautiful <3 My favourite album is probably Life For Rent, I love all the songs in it.

Thank you so much for sharing the new song Rob :D
I think it definitely has a Sex And The City sound :P , but I also have to agree with Ben, it has a Imogen Heap feeling too, which is just great :D

I really love the new track. I hope this is the new direction her music is going to.

Can't wait to see the movie Friday night.

As for Safe Trip Home, I do agree it took me a while to get into it, but I cherish it like her others now. You just realy have to believe in what she was going through around that time. :)

Oh, I just want to add - I picked up the new Faithless CD Dance today, and I really love it.

I wasn't sure if I was going to as the lead single didn't seem that strong, but the album is really great - very electronic and chilled, similar to their last one To All New Arrivals

And yeah, Dido appears on 2 tracks.
Personally my favourite Faithless + Dido song ever is probably "Last This Day", off To All New Arrivals, which you can try here. It once again draws on the themes of loss Dido shared on her last album, and is definitely about her father, surrounded by a swirl of evocative synths courtesy of Rollo and Sister Bliss....

So I'm a Dido novice and I only heard a few songs like Thank You and Here With Me (I heard it on Roswell), some Buena Vista Social Club mashup or collab (I can't remember what exactly), and her famous duet with Eminem in Stan. I've been reading some negative comments since last year back at Sarahboards about the album called Safe Trip Home and I finally decided to download it last week and I listened to it. I think it's quite good though so maybe I'm missing something...

You're not missing anything, Jessel :) Safe Trip Home is good, in fact it's pretty great. Q Magazine listed it in their Top 50 albums of the year (at #50) for 2008. And let's not forget that not many female solo artists ever make lists like that. http://www.qthemusic.com/cgi-bin/50best ... th.pl?id=2

The main complaint that people have had against it, seems to have been that it was a detour from her usual sound. Her usual sound is something between adult-contemporary pop-electronica. But the detour into slower, more introspective songs came with some benefits - like seeing Dido as a serious songwriter and musician, dealing with a huge personal loss.

She has already promised to go back to electronica for the next album, and I am guessing that is partially due to Safe Trip Home being cathartic and moving on from that, but also for commercial reasons. I felt a bit sorry for her, hearing that, since Safe Trip Home was obviously a personal project. But the commercial figures make sense.
Her first 2 albums sold 21million and 12million copies respectively, while Safe Trip Home had no major hit singles and therefore probably only sold a few million.

If I was going to choose some key tracks in Dido's career, i.e. the cream of the crop, it would be these:

- "Thank You"
- "Here With Me"
- "White Flag"
- "See The Sun"
- "Grafton Street"
- "The Day Before The Day"

You should also try that new song, at the start of this topic. ;)

cheers,
Rob.
