I completely agree with you there. Your previous post made me dig up my recording of the Palladium concert and listen to it again. The lady is a one-off: a true original. There are times when I feel like Kate created her own genre. And no, I'm not saying this as a half-crazed, delusional fan haha. Just an observation. :P

Sucks for me (lol), the best I can do is to imagine Kate at the top of her game. At least you have fond memories of watching her live.

I've often felt that Kate Bush's career has mirrored Peter Gabriel's. I got into Kate because of Peter (Genesis has always been my band, and I prefer the Gabriel years!), and her first two albums especially mirrored Peter's first two albums, in sound/vibe.

Plus, they dated briefly in the mid 80's, and were a cute couple! Shame they only stayed friends.

I think Kate is a creative genius, which is why I'm most distraught at her repeating her career with remakes. I loved Aerial, it's one of my favorite Kate albums, which is why I really wanted to hear what she would come up with next.

Hopefully she hasn't run out of material.

It looks like Kate is about to release a new music video, to accompany Deeper Understanding.
There is already a teaser available, but I must say....based on that....it looks like....shit.

So, guess that means Kate is staying true to form! :) (I only hope it's mildly amusing shit, and not a huge embarrassment).

Oh come on Rob, give the lady a break!
She's no longer the creative genius that she was 30 something years ago. Personally, I no longer expect something like Hounds of Love or The Dreaming or any album of that caliber. Same goes for her future visual output.

I understand where you're coming from though, seeing you're such a big fan of music videos. Kate could have made great videos if only the 80s have the same kind of technology we have now.

I should give her a break....but....

Well, here is the new video! See what you think. I've given my thoughts on that page, feel free to add yours (there or here)

I've been a LOT kinder though, than other websites! Like...

Really though, I don't think age has anything to do with it. Johnny Cash was...how old? when he released that amazing video to go with his final song. It's all about having the right people in your employ, and not being a control freak I think.

Well, I guess you summed it up perfectly in your review. I like your interpretation. Quite ironic since Depper Understanding (despite being written 22 years ago) is a song with a theme/message that is perfect for this generation. Anyway, here's a list of my complaints:
- Hagrid: Why not a young/er model?
- dated elements in the video: Yeah, CD-ROM and a lot of cheesy effects. Seriously?
- just where the hell is Kate?
- that goddamn autotune: well I think it's justified in the context of the computer talking to a human being. But I really hope this is the last time. Now she has at least one thing in common with annoying talentless hacks like Katy Perry & Ke$ha.

Tbh I think she's doing this mainly for her legions of fans, the majority of which belongs to a much older generation and nearly all of which (including yours truly) will gobble up everything she cranks out. Maybe Kate is trapped in a particular time frame, but let's also keep in mind that Kate is no Madonna. Unlike her more "successful" contemporary, reinventing her image/style/music to make herself more appealing to youngsters (and new prospective fans as well) is clearly not on her list of priorities. And let's get real here, I believe age IS a factor in the decline of one's creativity.

Having said that, I should say that I like what I've heard so far. My days of being a music video junkie are over anyway so substandard music videos doesn't bother me that much as long as the music is great.
