Madonna

Post by Empirejim » Fri Aug 31, 2012 12:11 am

Big night in Montreal as Madonna is in town. I am not a fan really but a couple of her songs are easy to listen to. One in point is Frozen which does tend to claim fame. Today, just about all topics seemed to be of Madonna and a certain buzz was in the air but let me stress the fact that, the buzz was from mostly the female side. She is 54 and still going strong however, just not my bag. Sorry....

The tickets for her shows are far too expensive and I prefer to see artists who write songs and play instruments.

Madonna write/co-writes all of her songs and she plays piano and guitar. She sticks to acoustic and electric guitar during live shows. On her last tour, her daughter played the piano during one of her songs for her.

Playing acoustic on Paradise (Not For Me) during the Confessions tour in 2005:

One of my favorite songs Nothing Fails from 2001:

A very personal song she wrote about her childhood. Her mother passed away when she was a child and she resented her father for years afterwards, Mother and Father on acoustic guitar:

Ray of Light on electric guitar during Live Earth:

Borderline from her 2008 tour. Again, playing electric guitar:

Burning Up from her 2003 tour... electric guitar:

Sorry, just had to take up for my girl. People love to hate on her way too much. I'm so glad she's still going strong. Her past few albums haven't been the best, but they're still good. I perfer 90s Madonna. Erotica (1992), Bedtime Stories (1994), Ray of Light (1998), & Confessions on a Dancefloor (2005) are all my favorite albums. I remember Sarah sampling a bit of Vogue in Steaming a time or two. ;)

I really didn't know! Sorry!
I like some of her songs, but not enough to pay to see her in concert.

Madonna is another artist I don't mind. I LOVE the whole of the Ray of Light album and always enjoy listening to Like A Prayer but I'm not as bigger fan of her other stuff! ;)

I had a love-and-hate relationship with Madonna for as long as I can remember. I love her older stuff such as Live To Tell, Like a Prayer, This Used To Be My Playground ... hell, even Borderline and La Isla Bonita (not all the time though lol). I hated it when she was cast as Eva Peron in Evita mainly because I'm a massive Patti LuPone fan; though I give her credit for originating the wonderful song You Must Love Me, which was eventually incorporated in the recent stage versions of the musical. I got infuriated again when I found out that she was asked to star in a planned film version of yet another of my favorite musicals (Sunset Boulevard) but I'm glad she turned it down or so they say...

I could make a list of the reasons why I don't like her and it would take about 20 pages and about half an hour of my precious time which I cannot take back. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I'm not really crazy about her, Madonna is an artist who never gave up and continues to work hard to improve/redefine herself and imho, that alone is worthy of respect. If she relied on looks alone, she would've been gone a long time ago. Ray of Light is by far her most artistic accomplishment to date and I admit that I was once mesmerized by Frozen.
