Milla Jovovich

Post by Magellan » Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:42 am

So I've always liked Milla Jovovich, particularly for her scorching performance as Leeloo in The Fifth Element. I'll even watch the Resident Evil movies (the latest one is currently top of the box office - so Milla is becoming bankable again). She's also a nutbag at times, but she's very down to earth and cool.

And I'd always heard she was a part time singer, as well as model-turned-actress. But who's ever heard her stuff?

What I didn't know was that her only solo album to date, 1994's "The Divine Comedy", was such an interesting little slice of lost/forgotten Kate-Tori-Sarahness from the 1990s.

It was recorded when she was just 19. And guess what else? Rather than being critically-bagged, it was critically acclaimed.

So why have I never heard this before? Have any of you guys heard this album?
This is a pretty nice effort for someone you never really think of as a singer. Without further ado, this is my favourite track so far:

Colour me impressed. The other tracks vary, and it isn't as good as it's influences. But Milla can sing, and I think it's well worth investigating.

Kate? Is that you? :)

I haerd her music before and thought it was really cool! :-) I must admit before hearing it I was thinking "actress turned singer? This won't be very good even if the Fifth Element is one of my favourite films of all time" but I was plesently proven wrong! :-)

Wow! There are moments when the vocal resemblance to Kate & Tori Amos is so uncanny... :o
I know Milla is a big Kate Bush fan and it shows in this particular song. I heard a lot from fellow fans about this album but there are times when I'm just too lazy to even bother, so thanks for posting this. I guess I have some downloading to do right now lol. I can't believe this album is 16 years old and I never heard it at all until now...

Isn't it great how Kate influenced some of the most brilliant musicians ever??
One little leaf adrift in the breeze, refuses to fall from the sky
Blown by the wind it clings to the tree, unwilling to wither and die...

Yeah, Kate seems to have influenced loads of people. She was (is) awesome.

And yes, the resemblance of Milla to Kate and Tori is amazing at times. There also a twinge of Sarah in there once or twice (Touch era).

You can hear all Milla's recent experiments and doodles on her website too. She gives them away for free. They're a mixture, but I think it's worth exploring.

Oh also, one single was released from her album with a video clip. Apparently the original video clip was directed by Lisa Bonet (from the Cosby Show), but was later re-shot as the following clip....very mid 1990s.

"Gentleman Who Fell"

And having listened a bit more, I think this next one is my second favourite Milla song...
