Sarah-Reaching out to us

What was that one moment, when you knew you were a Sarah fan? What was it that brought you over to her. For me it was the moment I heard her voice, so clear and so calm with a sense of down to earth and honest. Didn't even know what she looked like or who she was really. However, I went to find out and I liked what I saw. I bought everything that she made and started listsening to her works and I fell in love with her. She brings such peace to my world and believe me when I say, at times, it is important to have that peace. I am blessed in a sense that she is up here in my country and happy to know that part of my family does get to see her now and then when paths cross. In my life, Sarah is my passion and my support. I hope you can understand what I mean.

I first heard Sarah back in 1998 when Adia was released here in a soap opera soundtrack. I bought the cd just because of the song and listened to it everyday, singing along, but that was the only of her songs I had. I didn't have any access to her other works that time, but fell in love with the purity of her voice.
Time went by and I only had Adia until someday I was watching some Lost related videos on YouTube and one of them had Fallen as background song....I went crazy and loved the song, when I saw the credits at the end there she was again: SARAH MCLACHLAN. These days I already had internet access in my home and I started searching for material and (shame on me! ) I downloaded her discography. From that moment on, I knew that I'd found the songs that most matched my life. So I bought all of her cds and DVDs released here in Brazil (Surfacing, Mirrorball and Afterglow Live) and then went to Amazon to buy the other ones, and then to eBay to buy other singles....and then the story goes on and now I have many, many Sarah items, almost everything I put my eyes on.....

It was in early '98 (mid to late February I think) that I first heard Sarah's voice, a few weeks before my high school graduation. I found Surfacing among my sister's vast collection and the first Sarah tune I listened to is Building A Mystery. This was the 90s and there's plenty of really amazing stuff out there (unlike now ) that you can barely catch up with everything that comes out, but Sarah instantly pinned me against the wall with her haunting voice and soothing melodies. It's really thanks to my sister who eventually brought all of her pre-Surfacing releases that I was able to dig deeper into her back catalog. It is her first album Touch that made me finally decide I'm going to be a full-fledged Sarah fan for life.
I can still remember the first time I saw her sing live on TV: this was during the Grammy's '98 when she performed BAM alongside Paula Cole and Shawn Colvin (the one I posted on Youtube). It was a magical moment for me. I watch that video once in a while to revisit that moment. There are times when I bring my discman (no ipods back then lol!) and her CDs to campus hoping that people might notice her, but my friends and classmates are very much into Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos (yes, Tori is a 90s icon so she is well-loved by music lovers even here, she and Sinead are the quintessential 'rock chicks') and the like so they never really dig her music. Sarah's still an unknown in Asia back then and it's only until Afterglow came out and when Angel became so popular that her name and reputation here started to gain momentum. I never saw her live and that's explains my fascination with her live recordings as some of you know. I feel so lucky that Sarah's music reached me during that happy yet sometimes messy transition we all refer to as coming of age. :)

For me, it was in 1997, when I first heard about Surfacing.
I was listening to Building a Mystery and Sweet Surrender at the radio. A friend of mine was listening to her music and she gave me FTE as a birthday gift.
We also wanted to go to Toronto to see the Lilith show (we missed the Montreal show), but my mother didn't want to let me go there alone and she couldn't come with me. I was like 15 at the time!
I was listening to FTE all the time and just began to buy all the albums.

Lol, I like these reminiscing threads.

I think the first time I heard Sarah was in 2000 on a tv show. It was I WIll Remember You (from Mirrorball). Her voice stuck with me for a long time so whenever I heard one of her songs (mostly IWRY and Angel), I remembered her as that singer with the short hair

I re-discovered her thanks to an internet friend who sent me the Fallen track right around the time Afterglow came out. I didn't buy any CDs until early 2004. I first purchased the Fallen single, but my first full album was Mirrorball and I was so happy IWRY was in it cause that was the very first song of hers I remembered. I fell in love with her voice listening to that album and became a fan for life. I can't believe it's been 7 years since that happened and during that time I had the pleasure of seeing her live four times. The only thing that's missing is meeting her and getting a personalized autograph

A friend introduced me to her music in 1997. Since then I've been hooked.

it started for me in 1998... "sweet surrender" was the current single hitting the radio. i had heard sarah in previous years with songs like "possession" and "i will remember you" on the radio. i liked sarah but i never purchased her records. i was a senior in high school and i wasn't buying a lot of CDs (they seemed expensive back in the day) but "sweet surrender" did send me over the edge and i bought "surfacing" in the summer. That summer, I attended one of the original "lilith fair" shows (second year)... my date had to be home early so we had to leave shortly after sarah took the stage. good thing i wasn't fully aware of sarah's music or i would have had serious issues with leaving. it took me a few months before i really listened to the entire record... at that time i just started college... and i loved it from start to finish. "angel" was getting major airplay at this time.

from there, the natural process began... i bought her back catalog... i decided to do it slowly so i could savor each record. if i remember correctly, "fumbling" came second and then "mirrorball" as it was the next release. i really developed a strong liking to "solace" but it took a few listens to appreciate it. "touch" was a unique record... i love the title track and "vox."

little did i know, it would be several more years before a new studio album would surface... i was lucky enough to see sarah twice on the "afterglow" tour and it was amazing. i'm really looking forward to the new record and lilith fair this year.

I first heard of Sarah in 1991 when Into the Fire and Path of Thorns were popular here in Canada. I was mesmerized by her voice but I was only 9 so I quickly forgot about her. It was not until 1997 with Building a Mystery that I bought her albums and took in a few shows.

Well, here it is. Finally the show will get on the road and with that Sarah reaches out to us one more time. It has been awhile and I wonder if she thinks about how her fans will react. We all know that she did appearances off and on but this is the big one. Is she hoping that her fans have not left her. Will there be a huge turnout for this event. You don't have to worry Sarah, we diehard fans will never leave you and you have our support totally. It is amazing how your fans come to life with the mere mention of your name. I went through the local shopping center today and over heard two young girls talking about how excited they were for the concert news. The buzz is happening now and it can only get better. 8-) There is love in the air for Sarah and the fact that there will be a good concert going on with good female singers. :D

I think it must have been about 1995 shortly after FTE was released. I heard Possession and wondered who that amazing voice was. In my mind I saw someone blonde who looked like the Cranberries singer! Had no idea what she looked like until I bought FTE and saw the cover. Then bought the previous albums. Never knew anything about her until I got online, I think it was in 2004, purely to buy tickets for her tour. Until Afterglow I thought she had died or retired. Had no idea about her at all, I just loved the music. In a way I wish I knew less about her now. I never like to know much about artists. The music is the thing.
I'm an opinionated old tosser and proud of it.
