I definitely do believe that she reads her Facebook, and sometimes responds.

Sarah talks about Canada's politics on Facebook:
"Harper's G8-Gate: Let’s Get to the truth"

I find it quite annoying that some people write stuff like: "Sarah, stick to music" or "I hate when people try to use their celebrity to try to influence people politically"
-first, she can write what she wants, it's her Facebook page (and I suppose she approved it if someone from her team wrote it);
-second, everybody influences you politically: politicians, journalists, friends, colleagues, etc. Why not Sarah McLachlan? She's not different from the others, she has opinions and to share them with people is not something bad.

Moreover, it's not the first time that she speaks about politics. A few years ago, I remember that she signed a political petition (I'm pretty sure it was against the Conservative party of Canada) and we can just think about the video for Unchained Melody to see that she's not only a woman who sings! :roll:

I think people have the right to say whatever they want. Including celebrities.

People act as if, just because you can compose a song, that somehow makes you unable to comment on world politics. Dumbest thing I've ever heard!

I can absolutely understand that type of feeling though - there are a ton of celebrities that simply ruined themselves in my eyes because they act like complete morons on the political stage. I can also see why people would prefer that a Facebook-type fan page limit itself to promoting Sarah's commercial endeavors only too. It's a balancing act to maintain an interactive connection with your fans.

Yeah, I love U2, but I don't consider them my favorite band because of Bono's political rants on stage.

I understand your point, but Sarah critiqued the government a few times before, in interviews or others (for example, about music programs that are removed from public schools) and she has strong political and social opinions. Just think about the official position of Lilith Fair (in the 90s and 2010) about pro-life associations: Sarah talked about Lilith's ban on pro-life groups many times. It's not something completely new about her and even if some fans may be shocked by this, it didn't surprise me.

Like I've said before, it shouldn't matter about what a celebrities political rants are. It's just the music that should matter.

People should learn to separate the artist from the music.

I hate that too, as if being a musician gives you no right to rant about politics or social issues.

The people compaining are most likely supporters of Harper/The Conservative Party of Canada and are annoyed that thier favourite singer doesn't agree with thier politics! Everyone should have a voice and should be able to use it to say what they think even if you don't agree with it, that includes singers/artists.
