BC Creates Reception and Industry Showcase
Background
On April 28, 2015 at 6 pm, BC’s creative industries, led by the film & tv and music sectors, are gathering with business, community and Provincial Government partners at the Union Club in Victoria to celebrate British Columbia’s vibrant and growing creative economy.
Top tier talent and senior industry representatives will share their stories and illustrate the collective strength and future potential of BC’s talent-driven creative industries. Industry & Government will be introduced to newly established creative industries brand/communications vehicle ‘BC Creates’.
On behalf of the Provincial Government, Minister Shirley Bond (JTST) will proclaim Creative Industries Week in British Columbia and intro a video message from Premier Christy Clark.
On April 29, 2015 from 9 am to noon, creative industries representatives from the film & television, and music production sectors will present an ‘All Access’ behind the scenes look at the talent, technology, expertise and innovation that helps drive BC’s creative economy. The event takes place in the Rotunda at the BC Legislature with scheduled interactive sector demonstrations designed to inform and engage Provincial Ministers, MLAs and staff in some of BC’s key creative enterprises.
Introducing ‘BC Creates’
BC Creates is a communications initiative established to celebrate and engage British Columbia in the story of the Province’s vibrant creative economy. Introduced in April 2015, BC Creates will be a continuing showcase for BC’s film & television, music, digital media & technology, and book & magazine publishing sectors.
The Proponents
The initiative is a collaboration of the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia (ABPBC); Canadian Media Production Association-BC (CMPABC); Creative BC; DigiBC; the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC (MPPIA) and Music BC Industry Association (MusicBC).
The Objective
Under the banner BC Creates, the overarching objective is to gather and profile information about the participating industry sectors to build a compelling narrative on British Columbia’s creative economy that showcases:
• economic impact
• achievement & innovation
• education & jobs
• community partnership
• global reach
In so doing, the full breadth and potential of BC’s creative economy can emerge across the Province – industry, government, community, media – and become a known ‘brand’ that makes all of British Columbia proud.
