Closer A Nice Range Of McLachlan
Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan has put out a number of albums since her debut Touch in 1988. Some of her work has been fantastic (Fumbling Towards Ecstasy) and some just OK (Afterglow), but on Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan, the musician truly fills the album with the best of the best.
The disc celebrates the 20th anniversary of McLachlan’s recording career and also follows a chronological timeline in her career, opening with three stellar songs (“Vox,” “The Path of Thorns” and “Into the Fire”) from her first two albums (Touch and Solace). From there it moves on to three songs (“Possession,” “Hold On” and “Good Enough”) from her best, and a five-star worthy album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.
The end of the disc is the weakest, with songs from her latest albums and two new releases (“You Want Me” and Don’t Give Up”), but can still be considered good material.
The founder of the Lilith Fair tour who, according to her Web site, personally selected the material on Closer, has put together some of the best music she has recorded for her fans. Whether you are a diehard fan or new to her music, you shouldn’t be disappointed by this album.
