Sarah McLachlan To Headline Cancer Fundraiser
VANCOUVER, March 7 /CNW/ – The Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon Division today announced that Grammy winner Sarah McLachlan will headline its 6th Annual An Evening to Remember golf and gala on Saturday, May 6 to help raise funds for cancer research and community-based support programs.
The signature black-tie fundraising event will take place at Surrey’s Northview Golf and Country Club and be preceded by an inaugural golf tournament on Friday, May 5. The evening features a champagne reception with Juno Award winner John Gilliat playing guitar, dinner, a silent and live auction, and the private concert performed by McLachlan for 350 guests.
“We’re thrilled with this year’s program and expect to sell-out of tickets quickly,” says Gord Huston, president and CEO of Envision Credit Union and the event’s returning Honourary Chair. “Sarah McLachlan is a brilliant Canadian artist who will certainly help our gala once again live up to its name.”
To date, the event has raised more than $620,000 and sold-out five consecutive years. Loverboy performed in 2005, Credence Clearwater Revisited in 2004, Three Dog Night in 2003, Randy Bachman in 2002, and Burton Cummings in 2001.
McLachlan has supported the Canadian Cancer Society in the past. Last year, she made a surprise appearance at Riverside Park in Kamloops and sang a couple of songs for participants of the Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser.
