McLachlan, Bachman receive songwriting honours [#1 plaques from SOCAN]
SOCAN was pleased to present two #1 plaques to Sarah McLachlan recognizing the success of her songs “Angel” and “I Will Remember You”. “Angel”, from the album Surfacing, peaked at #1 on five separate music charts last February, including The Record’s Pop Adult Chart, the MuchMoreMusic video countdown and three Billboard charts, including Adult Top 40, Top 40 Tracks and Adult Contemporary. “I Will Remember You”, co-written with Seamus Egan and David Merenda and featured on the live album Mirrorball, reached the top spot in July and August on the MuchMoreMusic video countdown and the RPM Adult Contemporary chart. SOCAN President Gilles Valiquette made the presentations to Sarah prior to Lilith Fair at the Molson Amphitheatre on August 21.
SOCAN was also pleased to present Tal Bachman with his first SOCAN #1 plaque honouring the success of his song “She’s So High”. The song was #1 in Canada on The Record’s Rock Radio chart for four weeks, and was #2 in the US on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart at the time of presentation. The single has since climbed to #1 on that chart. Tal’s self-titled CD reached #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart on September 4. SOCAN Board Member Michael McCarty, President of EMI Music Publishing, presented the Number One plaque to Tal backstage prior to Tal’s performance at the Mix 99.9 Beachfest at Kew Gardens in Toronto on September 6.
