20 Questions With Sarah McLachlan (Plus: A Major ‘Shine On’ Giveaway!)

What’s not to love about Sarah McLachlan? She’s one of our original Canadian girl crushes — that voice! Lilith Fair! That hair! — and through it all she’s remained true to her roots. Born and raised by adopted parents in Halifax, she fell in love with music and performing in high school — in her yearbook she was even dubbed “most likely to become a famous rock star.”

She hit the big time after being “scouted” at a performance of a rock band she was in called The October Game. After finishing high school — and completing one year at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design — she high-tailed it to Vancouver to kick-start her sensational music career.

Almost 25 years later, McLachlan is one of the most decorated Canadian female musicians, having won eight Junos and three Grammys (among many other distinctions). And today, the busy mom of two and charity-loving lady, is set to release her first album in four years — Shine On.

We were lucky enough to score a few moments with McLachlan to hear more about her life and her favourite things. In the process — and to support the launch of her new record — she even offered up a giveaway to iVillage.ca readers… the chance to win a $500 pre-paid Visa credit card!
